6th Annual Great Teachers for Our City Schools National Summit

21st Century Teachers for Urban Student Success

April 3-5, 2013

 

Participants at the 6th Annual Great Teachers for Our City Schools National Summit examined and discussed 21st Century teaching and learning strategies to ensure the educational success of children in high-need urban schools. The Summit was held April 3-5, 2013 in Denver, Colorado. Over 250 participants joined us from 50 cities throughout the country, representing 18 states, plus Washington D.C.  

Session topics included:

  • Culturally responsive teaching

  • Engaging student learning through technology including blended learning and integrating multimedia resources

  • Using data to inform and differentiate instruction

  • Evaluating teacher effectiveness

  • Increasing the achievement of English language learners

  • Integrating the involvement of communities, families and parents into teacher preparation programs

  • Preparing teachers to help students become college and career ready

  • Effective “grow your own” programs to develop teachers of color

  • Development of professional learning communities to strengthen professional collaboration and student learning.
